Kodak moment on Three Brothers

Photos from this trip can be found here.

Since pups couldn’t tag along on Camp Muir on Friday, I took them out hiking on Sunday. Teanaway seemed like the place to go since weather wasn’t so nice elsewhere. Some recent photos of Three Brothers indicated not much snow was left. That meant it’s a snowshoes free day, yay! Three cars in the parking lot when we arrived, and two more parties came right after.

Approach followed Stafford Creek as if headed to Navaho Peak, Earl Peak, or Freedom Peak. This time we took the same scramble route as the one we took for Navaho Peak, climbed up steep slopes just before crossing Stafford Creek. A recent report indicated that the creek was hard to cross, so our scramble took care of the creek crossing issue. Navaho Peak southeast ridge dropped a few hundred feet onto Three Brothers southwest ridge. Cornices on Navaho ridge, lots of avalanche debris at the head of Negro Creek.

Once on Three Brothers southwest ridge, it was a matter of getting through lots of boulders all the way to the summit. Snow patches throughout, but not a show stopper that would keep us from moving forward. West peak looked to be the final stop for most people since it’s higher than the middle peak. Not sure where east peak was located.

The only part I dreaded on the way back was getting down onto Navaho Peak southeast ridge. But once we got on top, it was downhill all the way back to Stafford Creek Trail. Only one car left in the lot when we got back to the trailhead.
