Inspired by ejain‘s report from yesterday, pup and I once again set off to the Puget Sound area in an effort to dodge the rain. We parked by the Main Line Gate in the northeastern corner of Kettles Recreation Area and made a loop out of the trip.

Having a map of Fort Ebey State Park/Kettles Recreation Area was extremely helpful, as the area was overrun by intersecting trails. The large number of trails also provided many route combination options for hikers. With the “Cookin in the Kettles” bike racing event taking place today, we needed to take extra caution to avoid being run over by fast-moving bikes.

Our route took us through Main Line Trail, Boundary Trail, Kettles Trail, and Bluff Trail where we broke out of the forest and enjoyed views out west to the water and south to Ebeys Landing. Lots of campers and bikers congregated in the Vista Group Camp area. Fortunately we found a spot above the bluff away from all the action.

Lots of interesting trail names, some of which were “Cedar Grove”, “Moss Hill”, “Fern Grove” indicating the type of vegetation in that particular area. “Something” and “Something Else” were a couple among the many eccentric trail names to put a grin on my face.

After a long break on the bluff, we continued moving counterclockwise through Cedar Grove, Kettles Trail, Humpty Dump, and eventually arrived back at the car via Main Line Trail.
