Mister Cooper’s first hike in four months, he was more than ecstatic to be outside with us again. Petrified Forest Backcountry was perfect for a recovery hike, with not much variation in terrain, and mild in terms of elevation gain/loss.

This time we started by taking the path along Columbia River and slowly worked our way to the top. Along the way we ran into a group of bighorn sheep which quickly moved away the minute they noticed the pups. I made sure they did not run after those beautiful animals, and then I observed them through a zoom lens.

We also went another mile longer this time and traced along the rim like the times before. Such a fascinating place.
