This year we skipped our yearly Surprise Lake visit on Christmas Day and did something different. Pup and I had an enjoyable through-hike on Tiger Mountain last weekend. So today he and I went up to Poo Poo Point where he visited for the first time.

Once again, we accessed the Preston Powerline Trail behind our neighborhood and hiked to the Lingering Trail junction. Last weekend we had a hard time locating the inconspicuous junction on the way out. We ended up bushwhacking some to get back onto the Preston Powerline Trail.

The initial 2.5 miles included a small portion of the Tiger Mountain Trail followed by the K-3 Trail. Then the remaining 4 miles to Poo Poo Point was entirely spent on the West Tiger Railroad Grade Trail. With minimal elevation gain and loss, it wasn’t long before we finally got to today’s destination.

A handful of people hanging out at the lookout area when we arrived; many more hikers showed up soon afterward. Poo Poo Point is one of the super popular hiking destinations in the Issaquah Alps,. So most people took advantage of the holiday to come up to avoid the otherwise massive crowd.

After making a brief stop by the paragliding launch site, we hiked down the Chirico Trail to the south field. Decent views to the south, but no sign of Mount Rainier due to low clouds. So we hiked back to the launch site and hung out for another hour before heading out.
