Big Craggy Peak and West Craggy Peak sit at the east end of Pasayten Wilderness. The former ranks #7 in the top ten highest in Central Pasayten as well. Plus, both peaks are close enough to climb in one single trip.

The Preface
Climbing the two peaks allowed us to backpack and camp in the wild for the first time! It ended up being one of our highlights of the summer also. On top of that, it was our first double-peak adventure on the Bulger List.

Copper Glance Trail
We reached camp just before nightfall. Then it took me forever to set up our tent in the dark because it was my first time! It was a bit scary to be the only person with two dogs here. But we made it through the night safely!
On the way to the camp, we met a couple and their dog up by the meadow. By chance, I had recently met them through nwhikers.net. Then we chatted a bit before they continued down the trail.

Big Craggy Peak Climb
Walking up the scree to the top was laborious. So it was hard not to take one step forward and two steps back. But the pups were smart to weave their way through the boulders.
Views were breathtaking at the top, and they were very much like our trip to Robinson Mountain last weekend. But this place felt more desolate compared with the national forest.

West Craggy Peak Climb
Traversing to West Craggy Peak ended up more straightforward than I had expected. The pups, on the other hand, were ready to crash after the first peak. But the two champs made their way up to the second one with me.
On the way back, we took the direct route through the south gully. Then that got us back into the upper basin with a small pond. We checked out the area for a bit before going back to camp.

Outro
We lucked out on the gorgeous weather with our first backpacking trip. But now I’m ready to go after the rest of the top 100 peaks!
