This side of the Cascades was getting rained on, so the dogs and I escaped to Eastern WA with only 20% chance of rain in the forecast.
Trailhead to Big Burn is only .4 mile from that of Hardy, so either entrance will get you into either canyon. I opted to traverse on the ridge for better views and more open space than down in the canyon, which is full of nothing but trees. The canyons in this area aren’t very deep, and one can essentially hop from one to another as time allows.
Beware of target shooters. The sign on the trailhead gate indicated the end of target shooting season, but people obviously ignore the notice. Best time to hike in this wildlife area would probably be early spring and late fall to avoid trucks and campers.
