Getting to Beckler Peak’s Jennifer Dunn trailhead was decidedly impossible in the SUV. I got as far as mile post 2 and left my car there in fear of getting stuck in the snow like what I saw first-hand yesterday.
I started hiking on the service road at 9:30, with seven hours til sunset. There wasn’t enough time to try and hike up Beckler with the additional 9 miles to and back from the trailhead on top of the 7.4 miles round-trip. Oh the joy of shorter daylight.
Spikes were used up to mile post 5, then snowshoes for the next mile. Snow deepened at the last switchback at 2,640’, and I could have put the snowshoes on then but I held off until mile post 5.
