Trail bound circa 2008, one hike a week circa 2010.

Of Black American and Taiwanese Indigenous descent, John spent his early childhood in the remote Sheh-Shan Range in Central Taiwan. He began to show an affinity with mountains after his first hike in 2008 with his long-time climbing partner, Mr. Cooper.

Based in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, John, aka One Hike A Week, is an avid hiker, scrambler, backpacker, and mountaineer throughout the Cascade regions. Together with his two energetic, friendly Labrador Retrievers, the trio can sometimes be spotted meandering from one hiking destination to the next.

An active member of The Mountaineers and a long-time former member of Choral Arts Northwest, some of John’s interests include music, linguistics, photography, and baking.

  1. Hi John. I am pretty sure that you are the rescuer of my Ice Axe on Damnation. Thank you for that (again) and for your excellent blog which I looked at for the first time today. I keep thinking I will run into you in the mountains one of these days, as I am kind of a one hike a week person myself. But given the number of peaks out there, maybe that is stretching the odds. Take care.
