Baby Blue by Blue Mountain sits north of Kellogg Hill in Sultan Basin. The notable Wallace Lake nestles in the basin below Mount Stickney. Moreover, the vast Spada Lake spans near the northeast below Olney Pass.

Sultan Basin Road
We returned to Sultan Basin this morning after last week‘s exploration. Given the early morning rain forecast, I didn’t have a sound plan in the mountains. But I was glad the recent snow level was still high enough to access more hills.
Baby Blue was another peak inside the DNR logging area. As expected, it came with a gate like other places in the basin. It’s also direct, with the main road winding through cut logs and second growth to the ridgetop.

Another Day in the Logging Land
The nearby target shooting was in full swi30. It could be my low energy level, but the constant loud popping noises were quite annoying today. At least our gate had a sign restricting the activity.
Once leaving the car, we strolled past the logging piles into the forest. The road veered northeast below the summit over a steady incline to the switchback. It flurried when the snow showed up at 1400′ in the clearing.

Baby Blue Summit Views Plus Exit
Clouds were too low to see the top of the peaks en route. But I could still see Blue Mountain and Skykomish River Valley. We reached the brushy summit atop a gravel pit through several inches of snow in another mile.
It soon stopped snowing as we took a break. As the clouds slowly drifted, I saw Zekes Peak and Philadelphia Mountain looming in the east. Then we soaked in the basin view before returning to the sounds of the guns.
