Mount Sawyer ended up being our backup plan after the SUV got stuck in the snow on road 6830 on the way to Fisher Creek trailhead. We were about 18 miles in from Highway 2 so it would have been a long way out to get help. Luckily, we managed to dig ourselves out of the rut within three hours, slowly backtracked eight miles to road 6830/310 junction, and parked.
The one-mile road walk to the trailhead had less snow but with more ice and a higher inclination. The trail itself was mostly visible all the way to the cairned turnoff directly below the summit. There was more snow up in the upper meadow (pictured) but packed just enough that we didn’t need to put on snowshoes.
Weather wise, sunny all day and it got pretty warm in the afternoon. On the summit we had views all the way up north to Mount Baker and a little bit of Mount Rainier poked out from the south. Great views of Mount Daniel and Mount Hinman, plus west view of the South Skykomish River Valley.
