Oh, what I wouldn’t give to be sipping a cup of hot cocoa, snuggling up with the dogs, and opening presents under the Christmas tree… Nah, I’d rather hang out up here.

I saw not a soul on the way to Snow Lake until I got to the pass overlooking Snow Lake, where a group of hikers were taking a break and taking photos. I descended toward the lake, then put on snowshoes and left the trail at second switchback heading toward meadows below Avalanche Mountain.

The slopes were pretty steep and the snowshoes worked very well. Just below the ridge it got a little sketchy, since not all of the rocks had been completely covered with snow. It took some careful planning and stepping to get up to the summer block and up on the summit.

High clouds, so the views were cleared up for me to take some nice shots of peaks all around me. Snoqualmie Mountain and Mount Thomson looked especially threatening from this angle.
