Kodak moment in north basin

Photos from this trip can be found here.

What started out as mostly cloudy morning weather turned into heavy snow in the afternoon. Snow-dusted trail just past the 1,600’ elevation mark, a few more inches higher up. Major blowdown area on the north ridge around 4,200’. Semi snow-covered slopes leading up to the tarn at 4,520’ were slippery, and every step had to be taken with extreme caution.

We decided to turn around at around 4,800’ as the sunset time was fast approaching. We wanted to get back down past the aforementioned blowdown section and back to the road before dark, and we did just that. Snow eventually turned into rain after sunset and was hitting harder the closer we got to the trailhead.
